Types of Coffee
Arabica coffee
Characteristics:
Smooth, sweet and complex flavor, with fruity or floral notes.
Lower caffeine content (~1.2-1.5%) than Robusta.
Oval grains, grown at high altitudes (600-2000 m).
Main Exporters: Brazil (world leader), Colombia, Ethiopia, Honduras, Peru.
Robusta coffee
Characteristics:
Strong, bitter and earthy flavor, with twice as much caffeine (~2.2-2.7%) as Arabica.
More rounded grains, grown at low altitudes (0-600 m).
More resistant to pests and hot climates, making it more economical.
Main Exporters: Vietnam (world leader), Brazil, Indonesia, Uganda.
